Fishing Rods

The coast from Famagusta to Karpaz offers three kinds of ground: Glapsides and Bafra are sandy and call for surf casting, the Salamis rocks and the harbour mouth suit spinning, and boat trips from Boğaz and Yeni Erenköy need a boat rod. Rod length follows: 3.9–4.2 m surf, 2.1–2.7 m spin, 1.8–2.1 m boat.

Bluefish and bonito run October–December, sea bass and leerfish March–June, and bream can be caught from shore all summer. Match action to the target: light for bass, heavy for surf sinkers.

Salt and the Famagusta wind wear cork grips and guides early; rinsing with fresh water after every trip doubles a rod's life.
